Torah perspective
A father of nine celebrates his son's bar mitzvah, and days later he is gone. The suddenness cuts through our illusion of control. The sages teach that when a person dies in the midst of a mitzvah, that mitzvah accompanies the soul and speaks on its behalf. The joy of the bar mitzvah, the simcha shel mitzvah that filled that home, does not vanish with the driver's last breath. It becomes a garment for the soul in the world above. Every moment of genuine joy we create here is a deposit that outlasts us. The question is not how long we have, but how fully we live the time we are given.
