Mamdani defends October 7 statement, repeats genocide accusations
NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani defends his October 7 anniversary statement and again accuses Israel of genocide, despite criticism from Israeli and Jewish officials
Assessment
A New York City mayor is using his platform to amplify accusations that most Western governments and Jewish communal organizations reject. By doubling down on the genocide label, Mamdani is testing how far local elected officials can go in foreign policy commentary without facing political consequences. The response from Israeli and Jewish officials suggests this will remain a flashpoint in city politics.
