Parents of soldiers in the IDF's 601st Engineering Battalion are protesting a command decision that restricts accumulated leave days before the soldiers finish their service. The protest gained support from opposition Knesset members who plan to demand a special committee hearing. Anger is focused on Colonel Yoav Shneider of the 401st Armored Brigade, who reportedly refused to grant the full leave soldiers are entitled to after prolonged combat operations. The core conflict is between military operational needs and families' expectations for rest and support following extended deployments.
