The death of Yishai Zimmerman at 92 removes one of the last living links to Unit 101, the storied commando unit that shaped Israel's early military ethos. His receipt of the Medal of Valor for Operation Har Ga'ash and decades of reserve service mark a life of sustained contribution. His later activism against the Gaza disengagement shows how that generation's sense of national mission translated into political protest. His passing closes another chapter in the living memory of Israel's founding military culture.
