UEFA has approved the Israeli national team's request to wear black armbands in their match against Ireland in Serbia, marking the October 7 massacre victims ahead of the third anniversary memorial day. The gesture required UEFA's consent because FIFA regulations typically restrict political or commemorative displays on kits. Football Association chairman Shino Zuares made the request. This decision signals Israel's intent to use international sporting events for national remembrance, and it will be watched closely for how other teams or football bodies respond to similar gestures.
