Torah perspective
Two Jewish women walking in Stamford Hill, punched in the face for the crime of being visibly Jewish. The Talmud asks why the Torah commands a court to bring a condemned man back if he escapes, and answers that the law itself can be a source of stumbling. A society that lets hatred walk its streets unchecked teaches its children that such hatred is permitted. The response is not only arrest and prosecution, though those matter. It is the quieter work of building a community where every Jew knows they are seen, protected, and never alone. The bruises heal. The lesson must not be forgotten.
