Torah perspective
Three years after Oct. 7, which fell on Simchat Torah, Jerusalem's Second Hakafot carried both the full weight of grief and the full force of dancing. The Nova survivors who became Shabbat observant and now dedicate their Torah portions to friends who were killed are not escaping pain. They are answering it with the one thing that outlasts every enemy: the Torah itself, held not as a document but as a bride, carried in circles of joy. At Liberty Bell Park and at David Castle on the same night, photographs of the fallen stood beside dancing crowds. That is the Jewish reply to those who try to break us. We hold the memory and we dance anyway, because the Torah is our destiny, not just our history.
