Torah perspective
A plot to attack Manchester's Jewish community is a stark reminder of the eternal force the Torah calls Amalek. The command to remember is not about vengeance. It sharpens our awareness that evil exists to be actively overcome, not passively endured. The Jewish response is a strengthening of life, Torah, and unity. This is the inner meaning of erasing Amalek's memory: to banish the despair and cynicism that hatred tries to inject, replacing it with the joy of mitzvot and the resilience of community. In this season of Sukkot, we dwell in fragile booths open to the elements, yet filled with joy. That vulnerability is our strength, a declaration that no threat can dim the light of Torah.
