The erasure of Jews from sectors of American life where they once flourished is not a political trend but a spiritual test. The Jewish people have faced this pattern across every host culture for two millennia. What changes is not the hostility but the response. The Torah's instruction is not to measure acceptance by the tolerance of the surrounding society, but by the inner integrity of Jewish life itself. When the prophet tells Israel 'you are a people apart' (Bamidbar 23:9), it is not a curse but a calling. The current moment strips away the illusion that Jewish safety depends on being liked. It returns us to the older, harder truth: Jewish continuity has never been guaranteed by the gentleness of exile, but by the strength of what we build within it.
