Torah perspective
A Knesset candidate calls the Negev a battlefront for Palestine and eulogizes a soldier's murderer as a symbol of sacrifice. The law bars such a candidate. Yet the Supreme Court has never disqualified Balad. The Torah commands: 'Justice, justice shall you pursue' (Deuteronomy 16:20). Justice is not a menu from which a court selects only the clauses it wishes to enforce. When the same law is a weapon against Jews and a dead letter against those who deny the Jewish state's right to exist, the court has abandoned its role. A state that cannot distinguish between a citizen who criticizes it and one who designates its territory as a front for war has already begun to legitimize that war.
