Torah perspective

A Christian woman in the Netherlands took in a Jewish infant at the height of the Nazi occupation, raised him as her own, and died before he was old enough to remember her. Eighty three years later, Yad Vashem engraved her name on the Wall of Honour. The Talmud teaches that one who saves a single life saves an entire world (Sanhedrin 37a). Jacqueline Mintz did not merely hide a child. She gave a world back to the Jewish people, a world that now lives in Israel and turns 83 this week. The circle closes not because Yad Vashem declared it closed, but because the life she saved is still here, still breathing, still bearing witness.
