The claim that love of Torah comes at the expense of shared responsibility is a false dichotomy. The Talmud in Berakhot 35b records a dispute: some say one should study Torah entirely, others say one should work. The conclusion is extraordinary, many followed the first opinion and succeeded, many followed the second and succeeded. What matters is kavanah, the heart's direction. When a person sits in the beit midrash with genuine love of Torah and awareness that their learning sustains the nation spiritually, they too bear the burden. The problem is not Torah study itself but the severing of connection, when the scholar forgets he is part of Am Yisrael, and when the soldier forgets that מַגֵּן דָּוִד is the merit of Torah. Shared responsibility begins not by leveling differences but by each recognizing how the other's service completes what their own cannot.
