The former IAI chief spoke of a brit that has shattered. In Torah, a brit is the most solemn bond between heaven and earth, and between a people and its purpose. All Israel are responsible for one another, the sages teach. When leaders choose political survival over shared sacrifice, when one son is sent to war while another is excused, that principle of mutual responsibility is broken. Yet the prophets insist a broken covenant is never the last chapter. The Jewish instinct is not to mourn what collapsed but to show up and rebuild from scratch. The question is not who broke it, but who will answer the call to repair it.
