Torah perspective
Shabbat is not merely a day of rest but a divine testimony, woven into the fabric of creation itself. When justices charged with upholding law issue rulings on Shabbat, even in protest, they breach a boundary that predates every human constitution. The very hands that hold the gavel remain subject to the Hand that wrote the Ten Commandments. True justice cannot be built on the violation of the day that testifies to the Creator's sovereignty. A legal system that disregards Shabbat undermines its own moral foundation, for if those who interpret law do not honor the Lawgiver's own sign, what trust can the public place in their verdicts?
