Torah perspective
When a Jew acts, he carries the name of God and the image of the Jewish people in his hands. Every Jew is called to be a mamlekhet kohanim (a kingdom of priests), not just in the Temple but in public dealings with all peoples. Even when enforcing a righteous blockade against hostile flotillas, the dignity of the detainees matters. It reflects the sanctity of the nation doing the enforcement. The rebuke from Israel's leaders echoes a deep principle: power without refinement is not strength but liability. True gevurah (might) means channeling kavod (honor) properly, honoring God's name through measured, dignified conduct even when facing enemies.
