Torah perspective
On the festival of the Giving of the Torah, children in Kiryat Shmona hide under tables as sirens wail. The Sages teach that the world stands on the breath of schoolchildren learning Torah, and that even the Temple, in its full glory, was not demolished as long as children studied within its walls. A child learning Torah, even under a desk with an air raid siren outside, holds up the entire world. That is the quiet victory that the headlines miss. Their Torah is the truest shield, and their courage, forced upon them by circumstance, is a sacred testimony that the Giving of the Torah never stopped.
