Torah perspective
When a mob surrounds a man's car and then claims he struck them, the accusation itself already carries the energy of the crowd's demand, not the pursuit of truth. Cornell cleared its president, but the deeper Torah teaching runs further: the prohibition against "following a multitude to do evil" is not just for courts. It is a call to resist the gravitational pull of group narratives, even when they feel righteous. A person trapped by a mob has already been sentenced in the court of public opinion before any evidence is heard. The real work is to train ourselves to pause, to demand facts before alignment, and to remember that justice delayed by the pressure of outrage is no justice at all.
