Torah perspective
A young man speaks Hebrew outside his home in London and is beaten for it. The Hebrew language is not merely a tool of communication; it is the holy tongue through which the world was created and the prophetic word was given. Every word spoken in Hebrew carries a spark of that original light. When a Jew speaks Hebrew, even casually, one affirms a chain stretching back to Sinai. The assault on Shalev Ben Yakar was an assault on that chain. But the same breath that was targeted is the breath that keeps the language alive. Our response is not fear, but more Hebrew: more learning, more speaking, more singing.
