Jewish communities across the diaspora, including Australia, are living through a painful reversal. After a mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration, synagogues operate under heightened security, students hide their identity, and a Royal Commission reveals that speaking about hatred only draws more hatred. This pattern is not new in Jewish history. Exile means the nations cannot be relied upon to protect us. But there is a deeper truth: antisemitism has never been about Jewish failings. It is a mirror held up to the society that harbors it. When a society tolerates Jew-hatred, it reveals its own moral decay. The Jewish response is not to despair but to deepen our own identity. The innermost point of the Jewish soul cannot be touched by any external force. That is why we endure, and why we will outlast every wave of hatred.
