Torah perspective
Silencing a memorial to Jewish victims because terrorists threaten violence is the very victory terror seeks. The Torah commands us to remember what Amalek did (Deuteronomy 25:17), to preserve memory precisely because forces of evil wish to erase it. When the world removes a Nova exhibit sign under threat, it colludes with the erasure. 'Terrorists aim to terrify,' wrote Rabbi Sacks; 'to be a Jew is to refuse to be terrified.' Increasing our joy, our light, and our public Jewish presence is the only true response. Marbim besimcha, we increase in joy. The victims of October 7 deserve nothing less than our unflinching memory, and no threat should silence it.
