Torah perspective
The mass displacement of 850,000 Jews from Arab lands after 1948 extinguished communities rooted in those soils since before Islam existed. Their pain was real, their loss incalculable. Yet the prophet Isaiah speaks of a hidden hand in history that gathers Israel home. What appears as ethnic cleansing to the world is, from the perspective of covenant, the ingathering of exiles promised to Abraham. Those families did not simply flee persecution. They were being collected, stone by precious stone, for the rebuilding of Jerusalem. The truth they carry is not only of suffering endured but of a promise unfolding.
