Torah perspective
A soldier falls in southern Lebanon, and a nation is called to pause. The Torah measures a life not by its length but by its dedication. When the verse says "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends," the sages understood this as the ultimate expression of the soul's bond with the source of life itself. Staff Sgt. Negev Dagan gave his days so that others might live theirs in the land promised to our fathers. Such a death is not an end but a seal, a bond that cannot be broken. May his family know no more sorrow.
