Torah perspective
Jerusalem is built of stone, but the stones themselves have a heart. Today, on Jerusalem Day, we remember that the city was not merely conquered but reunited, a return to the source of divine presence in the world. The name Jerusalem contains both 'complete' and 'awe', teaching that wholeness comes through reverence. Every stone of the Old City, every alleyway, every gate carries the memory of the divine promise. When we touch the stones of Jerusalem, we touch the heart of the covenant itself. The city calls us not to possess but to be possessed by the vision of peace that flows from its holy center.
