Torah perspective
Jerusalem is the city where heaven and earth meet, the place God chose for His presence to dwell. When the rejoicing of Yom Yerushalayim is marred by cries of 'death to Arabs,' we have missed the point entirely. The prophet Isaiah declared that from Jerusalem shall go forth Torah and the word of God to all nations. The city's reunification was not a military victory alone but a call to embody the holiness that the place demands. A Jerusalem that cannot protect the dignity of every human being created in God's image is not yet the Jerusalem of the prophets. True strength is not in domination but in the moral clarity to say that even our enemies are God's children. May we merit a Jerusalem that lives up to its name, the city of peace.
