Torah perspective
Jerusalem is not merely a capital but the very point where the physical and the transcendent meet. The verse says 'Jerusalem built up as a city that is joined together', the sages explain this means a city that makes all of Israel friends. When thousands march through its streets today, they are not celebrating real estate but the reunification of a people with its soul. The 59th anniversary of the Six-Day War reminds us that Jerusalem's wholeness is a divine gift, one that calls us to internalize the same unity in our own hearts. The joy of the day is the joy of connection, to each other and to the Holy One who chose this place.
