The campaign to banish Hillel from campus is not really about a student organization. It is an attempt to sever the Jewish people from the very source of our identity. The name Hillel itself recalls the great sage who taught that the entire Torah rests on one principle: 'What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow.' To demand that Jews abandon their connection to Israel as a condition for belonging is to demand that they abandon Torah itself. The Jewish soul and the Land of Israel are bound together at the deepest level, as the verse says, 'I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.' No campaign, no resolution, no boycott can cut that bond. The Jewish people have survived far greater attempts to erase us, and we will continue to thrive, because our connection to HaShem and His land is not a political position but the breath of our existence.
