Torah perspective
Two ancient coins have returned to Israel, one bearing the Temple menorah minted in Hasmonean Jerusalem, the other from Ashkelon. The menorah coin carries a deeper message: it was struck during the Hasmonean era, when a small band of priests, faithful to the Torah, reclaimed the Temple from Greek oppression. That same menorah, kindled by pure oil that should have lasted only one day but burned for eight, testifies that when we act with faith, the light exceeds nature. The return of these coins to the land of Israel today echoes that same pattern: what was taken, whether by conquest or by theft, ultimately finds its way home. Nothing truly belonging to holiness is ever permanently lost.
