Torah perspective
Masked protesters chanting "Zionism will fall" while waving Hezbollah flags outside a synagogue is not a political disagreement; it is a reenactment of an ancient hatred. The synagogue is the mikdash me'at, the small sanctuary, and a wedding of Jews to the Land of Israel is precisely the kind of joyful mitzvah that hatred targets. The Zohar teaches that when the snake attacks, it attacks the place of blessing. But the chant they chose betrays them: brick by brick implies a structure built by human hands, and therefore one that can be dismantled. The bond between the Jewish people and this land was not assembled by any human builder, and no chant will undo what was sealed at Sinai.
