Torah perspective
The chant 'Brick by brick, wall by wall, Zionism will fall' echoes the builders of Babel who sought to erect a tower against Heaven. But there is a deeper irony. The synagogue where they protested is called a mikdash me'at, a miniature sanctuary, and its walls are not built by human ideology alone. The prophet Zechariah envisioned a time when old men and women would again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, and the city would be rebuilt not by force but by divine promise. Zionism at its root is not a political movement invented in the 19th century; it is the prophetic return to the Land, the ingathering that the Torah itself set in motion. Walls built on covenant cannot be dismantled by chants.
