Torah perspective
When a soldier leaves the battlefield, the battle does not leave him. The soul that rose to defend the Jewish people must now learn to dwell in quiet places. The deeper calling behind Gav Lalochem's work echoes the verse "והשיבותם לאיש את אשתו", return a person to his wholeness, to his proper place. Helping a warrior reintegrate is a form of pidyon shevuyim, redeeming a captive from the war that still holds him. The Gemara teaches that one who sustains another's soul is as if he created it. Supporting veterans is not charity; it is completing the sacred circle of those who gave so that we could live.
