Assessment
The discovery of drug-laden balloons near an IDF base raises familiar security questions. Balloon-borne contraband from Gaza has been a recurring challenge, sometimes carrying explosives rather than narcotics. The military's investigation will need to determine the launch origin and whether this signals a shift in smuggling methods. Watch for whether the IDF tightens perimeter security or adjusts its response protocols for airborne threats.
