The Pentagon has been told to get ready for major combat operations against Iran, though no order to strike has been given yet. A US official told Axios that CENTCOM is preparing, but President Trump has not decided. This puts the military on a short leash, ready to move if the political call comes. Watch for any shift in Trump's public statements or diplomatic signals that could indicate a decision is near.
