The consulate is set to close October 8 under an order by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar following UK sanctions
Assessment
Britain is threatening reciprocal expulsions if Israel follows through on closing the UK consulate in East Jerusalem. The dispute escalates after UK sanctions prompted Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar to order the closure for October 8. Both sides are now in a standoff where diplomatic ties could be severely damaged. Watch whether Israel proceeds with the closure and whether Britain actually expels the 27 diplomats.
