Assessment
The death of neighborhood activist Shafi Paz has exposed a raw nerve in Israeli political discourse. Left-wing activists Israel Frey and Barak Cohen posted inflammatory responses, with Frey saying the world is better without her and Cohen using her death to wish illness on Prime Minister Netanyahu. A five-year-old tweet from Paz, however, shows she once wished Cohen a speedy recovery when he had a cardiac event. The contrast between her grace and their vitriol is stark, and the public reaction will likely deepen existing political divides rather than bridge them.
