Police arrest two Rahat residents, confiscate one camel, after foiling Bedouin camel race plans
Camels were also spotted in the Bedouin city of Rahat on Election Day the week beforehand, as masked individuals riding on horses and camels through the city were seen waving flags and playing music
Assessment
Police action against a planned camel race might seem minor, but the election-day sightings of masked riders on horses and camels waving flags suggest something else. The arrests and confiscation point to authorities treating the event as more than a cultural tradition. The timing and symbolism raise questions about political tensions in the Bedouin city during the elections.
